Car Bomb Found In Times Square (PHOTO, VIDEO)
Times Square was evacuated after police discovered that a suspicious smoking Nissan Pathfinder contained an explosive device, which was promptly dismantled, on Saturday (May 1). The vehicle contained three propane tanks, consumer-grade fireworks, two filled 5-gallon gasoline containers, two clocks with batteries, electrical wire and other components.
In a press conference (watch video below), Major Michael R. Bloomberg, said, “We are very lucky. We avoided what could have been a very deadly event. It certainly could have exploded and had a pretty big fire and a decent amount of explosive impact.” The tragedy was prevented by T-shirt vendor, a Veteran of the Vietnam war, who saw smoke coming out of the vehicle. The Major guaranteed the authorities are investigating this case, which is being treated as a “potential terrorist attack”.
The vehicle’s Connecticut license plate was apparently wrong and came from another truck that was at a junkyard. The police is carefully looking into surveillance videos to find the person responsible for the failed bombing attempt.
