TV journalist Ted Koppel’s only son Andrew Koppel was found dead in a New York City apartment around 1:30 am on Monday (May 31) after a massive twelve-hour drinking binge. Andrew was 40 years old.

Andrew and a 32 year-old waiter named Russell Winberly, whom he met at a bar in Hell’s Kitchen on Sunday morning, had been hanging out and drinking all day. Russell claims he took Andrew to Belinda Caban’s home at 11pm Sunday (May 30).

Andrew, who had a history of alcohol problems, was “messed up when he came in – he was very drunk,” according to Belinda. They laid him down in a bed and after a few hours Belinda found him dead, “drenched in his own feces and urine, and not breathing.” She called 911. Andrew was pronounced dead on the scene.
