Rumor: Google to Launch Facebook-Like ‘Google Me’

Digg founder Kevin Rose tweeted earlier tonight that according to one of his credible sources that Google is about to take on Facebook with their own social networking site ‘Google Me’ that they plan to launch in the very near future.

Normally I would say don’t bet against Google but with the failure of Google Buzz I think it’s possible that ‘Google Me’ bombs. Facebook has built up such a brand with hundreds of millions of users.

Facebook is very cutting edge, stays on top of trends, breaking technology, and came out of no where to surpass MySpace then bury it in no time.

If ‘Google Me’ can even compete with Facebook then it will be an amazing social network.

If google does create this I will up and leave facebook. Google wins. Buzz is not a failure it needs time to offer something different then Twitter. Also, look how bad YouTube was tanking then Google took over. They are still losing money hand over fist…but give it time.

There’s nothing to special about facebook. People are sick of facebook and their constant changes and privacy violations. If its at least as good as facebook I see a lot of people flocking to it.

OTOH, Google has a tendency to create products and forget about them. Gvoice for example. iGoogle broke the gadgets for google products 6-7 months ago and they STILL haven’t fixed it. We probably need a 3rd party to beat facebook.
