After Bret Michaels‘ incredible comeback to perform a duet with Casey James on America Idol Season 9 finale, Simon Cowell, who was leaving the show that day, suggested the rocker is perfect for the role of new judge on the show. “I was honored that Simon said that,” Bret tells People, “and I would be honored to do it.”

Well Bret, who has just been through a couple of life-threatening health problems for the past couple of months months, wants the job. Bret is ready to become a super star and ditch his cheap celebreality status. And he has already started his campaign to become the next American Idol judge.

“I’m talking old-school, paying-my-dues experience,” he says. “I used to move the pool table out of the way to play for people six nights a week, playing five sets a night, where I had to announce the dinner special. I grew up the old-fashioned way. I would have done anything to have a platform like American Idol when I was growing up.”
“For a lot of these young musicians, I’d be able to give them incredibly awesome and very, very real advice,” adds Michaels. “Not just the music, but their attitude and what it’s gonna take. Because everyone forgets one simple thing: Once you get chosen as the winner, you still have a big road ahead.”
“I would bring my heart and my soul and amazingly honest and truthful advice,” he says. “And I would tell them if I thought their chances of making it were really slim — and how to fix that. Because my chances of making it were extremely slim. It’s come from brute determination.”
Bret is the king of reality shows – he was a judge on Nashville Star, tried to find love during three seasons of “Rock Of Love” and he just won Donald Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice”. He has a fantastic resume. But does Bret have what it takes to replace Simon?

We love Bret. However, American Idol needs a raw, cruel and even rude judge to survive. Bret would be too sweet and kind for the job. Idol needs a judge who can tell the contestants they cannot sing and that they shouldn’t quit their day job in pursuit of a career in music because that’s not going to happen.

In that case, we would prefer to have Howard Stern or even Elton John as the new judge. There are also rumors that Ryan Seacrest may be the one to replace Simon, but who is going to host? Ellen DeGeneres? The question is: who would be the best American Idol judge?
