Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry has his sights set on woman of the year: Betty White.  Cherry, who is a longtime friend of Betty’s, was formerly a writer for The Golden Girls.

He said:

“I adore Betty. Betty got me a seat at Saturday Night Live, so I was there when she hosted. She’s so astounding. I would love to have her do the show. She works harder than any of us. She is constantly employed. I’m trying to just see if I can get her for dinner. It’s so hard to book her!”

And he’s not kidding. I’m sure she’s actually fighting off jobs at this point.

Other newcomers to Wisteria Lane include Brian Austin Green, who recently wed Megan Fox, and Vanessa Williams of Ugly Betty. It looks as if Green will be playing love interest to two of the ladies on the show, including Williams and Marcia Cross:

“Marcia will have a new love interest in the form of Brian Austin Green. We wanted Bree to be involved with a hunky blue collar contractor and take her out of her refined and educated world — someone who’s a bit younger and someone who would be challenging to Bree. We read the first script of the season and I introduced Brian as Marcia’s new love interest and then I said, ‘You’re welcome, Marcia!’ and Marcia blushed.”

Oscar-winning screenwriter Brook Busey aka Diablo Cody has just announced on her Twitter account that she and her husband Dan Maurio welcomed a healthy baby boy (7lbs, 2 oz) on Tuesday (July 27).

The couple decided to name their first bundle of joy Marcello Daniel Maurio. The proud momma tweeted, “We had our boy early this morning! Marcello Daniel Maurio, 7lbs, 2 oz, lightly mustachioed.”

Diablo also announced she was expecting on Twitter back in April 2010. The “Jennifer’s Body” and “United States of Tara” creator is currently working on a movie adaptation of the “Sweet Valley High” book series.

Jon Gosselin and Michael Lohan’s former girlfriend, Kate Major, fired off a cease and desist letter to actress Lindsay Lohan’s daddy and several celebrity gossip sites over some half-naked leaked pictures that hit the web this week.

Kate is completely exposed in the photos in question, which were taken by her former fiancé Michael while she was sleeping without her knowledge. She claims she did gave her consent for the public display of those pictures.

The former magazine editor is now threatening to take legal action against Michael. The letter reads, “We have recently become aware that you are illegally selling or offering for sale one or more nude photographs of Ms. Major to kikster LLC and other websites.”

NBA all-star Chris Kaman is the starting center for the Los Angeles Clippers from October to April during the NBA season. But during the summer, especially July 4th, he turns into a pyro fireworks master.

Earlier this month Kaman, and his buddies, put on a fireworks show better than any city, municipal, or even Disney World put on.

The expansive fireworks show cost Kaman over $10,000, but no need to worry since Kaman makes several million dollars a year.

After Anna Chapman was forced to return to Russia, Anna Fermanova, who was born in Latvia and whose husband lives in Moscow, is the latest sexy girl accused of espionage. Fermanova was arrested upon her return from a four-month trip to Moscow at her home in Dallas on July 15.

“She’s a nice Jewish girl who lives with her sweet Latvian parents,” said Scott Palmer, a Dallas criminal defense attorney. “There’s no terrorism link. There’s no espionage.”

The authorities started suspecting the woman when she was caught with a $7,000 Raptor 4X Night Vision Weapons Sight and other night-vision devices worth $4,000 each at Kennedy Airport. Fermanova explained she bought the devices online for her husband’s hunting buddies in Russia.

Asked if she knew taking them out of the country was illegal, she said she “signed something about that” but was “not really sure what she was signing,” the papers say.

She admitted removing identifying marks from the scopes and blacking out serial numbers with a marker “so they would be less noticeable,” court records show.

Agents confiscated the scopes but allowed her to fly to Moscow – then arrested her when she returned to U.S. soil this month.

Fermanova was charged with “knowingly and intentionally” attempting to export “defense articles on the United States Munitions list” – charges that carry 10 years in prison.
Her passport was seized and she was put under house arrest after posting $50,000 bond.

The alleged Russian spy’s lawyer claims his client is not a spy, but a normal and sweet Jewish girl. “She bought them legally. They are available for purchase on the Internet, you just need a license to export them,” Palmer said. “They were for her husband’s buddies who are hunters in Russia. They were basically buying something in the U.S. that’s available in Russia but is extremely expensive.”

Fermanova, whose parents immigrated to the US when she was just a baby, is a former cosmetology student and English teacher. She is currently studying communication at the University of Phoenix. Fermanova was arrested for forging a $76 check and given three years probation back in 2003.

Actress Penelope Cruz, who recently secretly married actor Javier Bardem, and actor Johnny Depp were spotted filming their first scenes together for the fourth installment of Pirates Of The Caribbean, titled “On Stranger Tides”.

Penelope will play the daughter of Captain Jack Sparrow’s nemesis, Blackbeard (Ian McShane), described as the “nastiest pirate ever”. Producer Jerry Buckheimer revealed there will be a “little” romance between Johnny and Penelope.

“She plays the daughter of Blackbeard,” executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer told MTV. “She’s the daughter of the bad guy. She brings a lot of humor to it. And the fact that she’s so feisty. [There will be] a little romance between [Depp's] Captain Jack and the character that Penelope plays.”

Oh no! So Penelope will be a distraction in Sparrow’s search for the Fountain Of Youth. Lucky girl! A teaser trailer for “Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” featuring the rum addicted Captain Sparrow was presented at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con (watch video below). Johnny is a genius!
