Gisele Bundchen Wants Breastfeeding Law
Gisele Bundchen spoke out about her beliefs on breastfeeding, saying she thinks it should be mandatory for mothers to breastfeed their babies.
“I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.”
She told Harper’s Bazaar Magazine, adding:
“Some people here (in the US) think they don’t have to breastfeed, and I think ‘Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?’”
The backlash she received apparently left her feeling somewhat guilty; she backed down a bit from her initial statements. She posted on her blog yesterday:
“My intention in making a comment about the importance of breastfeeding has nothing to do with the law. I feel like I am in a constant search for answers on what might be the best for my child.”
“I understand that everyone has their own experience and opinions and I am not here to judge.”
Gisele, who married football god Tom Brady in 2009, is the world’s highest paid supermodel. The couple welcomed a baby boy, Benjamin, in December, with a natural birth at home.
This release follows an act of social media suicide in the Twitter world earlier this week, when Tulsa, Oklahoma coffee shop The DoubleShot tweeted that breastfeeding was not allowed in their establishment. The original tweet has since been deleted, but the admission of guilt is still standing. Their little faux pas made headlines worldwide, and upset lots and lots of mothers.
