Just a few days after an onlooker committed suicide at one of their shows, The Swell Season have announced their hiatus.

Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova will pursue their own musical projects individually, but Glen says this break will be an eventual end to The Swell Season.

“I’ll go back to The Frames, and Mar will make her own record at some point,”

“This band will eventually naturally end. But right now, all of us are just so grateful.”

The ‘hiatus’ is not related to last week’s tragic incident, and is tragic in itself.

The Swell Season received an Oscar– Best Original Song– for the song “Falling Slowly”.

The two appear to be on good terms, despite ending their romantic relationship, and wish eachother well.

Glen said of Marketa, who will go on to do a solo project:

“I love the way she writes,”

“I think she’s an incredible songwriter, and I think she could make a really beautiful, beautiful record. I have no doubt, in fact.”

Oh well, all of the best bands break up anyway.

I wish them both well in their ventures!
