I’m finding it a little hard to believe that Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice only wears costume jewelry. But that’s certainly what she’s claiming! According to a transcript from her Chapter 7 hearing in February of 2010, Teresa claims that all of her real jewelry was stolen, and other than her wedding band, all she wears is fake costume jewelry:

“My jewelry got stolen a couple years ago at our house in Lincoln Park…we had a break-in. So unfortunately, a lot of – all my jewelry got stolen there. It’s all costume jewelry… and if you look at what I wear, it’s all costume jewelry,” she stated to the trustee attorney questioning her during the hearing.

But what about that gigantic yellow diamond her husband, Joe, gave her for their 10th anniversary? P.S.- That aired on national television, people. There’s no running from TV.

When Joe was asked what jewelry he currently owns, he replied, “the chain around my neck.” Then he went as far as to say, “I actually had a watch and just lost it the other day.” You lost it? This really isn’t making any sense. To add to the confusion, when asked what kind of watch it was, he said he didn’t remember. Despite the fact he’s owned it for more than 20 years:

“I think it was an Esquire or something – I don’t even know.”

The trustee attorney then questioned if Joe was telling the truth, saying:

“You seem to take this with great levity…you have to be more serious about this. Your petition lists a gold necklace and a gold cross. Do you own – do you still have that?”

When Joe was asked if he still owned the necklace he replied “yes.” He also admitted to still owning his wedding band.

The attorney preceded to grill the couple on their claim that they only had $1000 in the bank when they filed for bankruptcy in December of 2009, saying:

“You didn’t have thousands of dollars or hundreds of dollars?”

Joe answered:

“Maybe a few hundred, I don’t know.”

This is downright crazy. I love the Real Housewives of New Jersey. I love it so much I feel like I’ve been neglected if I miss a single episode. But as an outsider looking in, the Giudices did this to themselves by spending beyond their means. It’s fine if you lose your mind on the show, but for heaven’s sake, don’t lose your bank account.
