Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrette was crowned the 2010 Miss Universe during the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas on Monday (August 23). The 22 year-old promised to honorably represent and promote her home country of Mexico during her year long reign.

“I want the whole world to know about my country and my people,” the Guadalajara native said. “I imagine that they’re all going crazy in Mexico right now. I’m extremely proud and I’m sure they’re very proud, too.”

Jimena succeeds to 2009 Miss Universe, Stefania Fernandez from Venezuela, becoming the second Mexican Miss Universe after Lupita Jones won the title back in 1991.

Miss Universe won a package of prizes including an undisclosed salary, a luxury New York apartment with living expenses, a one-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy with housing after her reign, plus jewelry, clothes and shoes fit for a beauty champion.

Actor Martin Short’s wife, Nancy Dolman, passed away at the couple’s Pacific Palisades home in Los Angeles, California on Monday (August 23). Nancy was 58 years old.

The paramedics responded to an emergency call for medical help at their home, where they were for about 30 minutes before leaving without transporting anyone to a hospital. Nancy most likely died at home and the cause of death is still unknown.

“Sadly, we can confirm that Martin Short’s wife did pass away,” said Martin’s rep Camille Kuznetz. “We do not have any other comment to make.”

Martin and Nancy met on the production of the 1972 musical “Godspell” and they were married for more than 30 years. Nancy decided to retired from acting to raise her family back in 1985. The couple had three children together, Katherine (26), Oliver (24), and Henry (21).

American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino speaks out for the first time since she was hospitalized from an overdose a couple of weeks ago in an exclusive interview for VH1’s “Behind the Music”, which will air on the day of her “Back To Me” album release Tuesday (August 24).

The 26 year-old confessed that she knew exactly what she was doing when she took an overdose of aspirin and sleeping aid. She was in too much pain, emotional pain, so she decided it put an end to it. Fantasia just wanted to die.

“I didn’t have any fight in me. I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted out,” Fantasia said. “At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with – all of it, all of that [expletive].”

She continues: “I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace. I knew exactly what I was doing. You can’t accidentally take a whole bottle of pills.”

“I was tired of people doing me wrong, constantly, over and over again, dealing with my family – my father, dealing with men and their [expletive] – I was tired,” she says. “My head was hurting me. I was over it.”

Fantasia decided to take her own life after reading the court documents of Antwaun Cook and his estranged wife Paula Cook‘s divorce and realized that she had been betrayed. The guy had lied to her and the wife was actually suing her for ruining their “happy” marriage.

“When I met him, he was separated … wasn’t living in his home. He didn’t want to be back with his wife – that is what I was told,” Barrino says. “I remember waking up in the hospital [and thinking], ‘It didn’t work, I’m still here in this hellhole. Still here with all this drama going on.’ ”

Ultimately, the singer says the saving grace was her nurse. “My nurse Melanie was a blessing into my life because she didn’t tell me what I wanted to hear,” she says. “She told me what I needed to hear. And she looked at me and said, ‘You gotta get up, and you’ve gotta get out of here, ’cause you haven’t fulfilled your destiny.’ ”

“I realized how people end up in the grave. Because that one moment [snaps her fingers] of just breaking or feeling like I can’t, I can’t go on, it’s too heavy. That was somewhere I don’t ever want to go again.”

Fantasia still has a long way to go to fully recover, but she has a new album out and is currently totally focused on making it a huge success. Fantasia is ready for a comeback. We wish her the best and hope she doesn’t fall in love for the wrong type of men again in the future.

The Hollywood Reporter is right: “The Situation” should change his name to “The Corporation.”  Mike Sorrentino, 29, is slated to earn more that $5 million by the end of this year. With Jersey Shore bringing MTV the best ratings the network has seen in seven years, the reality star is raking in the bucks. His manager, Mike Petolino, said:

“We are really excited about all the opportunities coming Mike’s way. He has been able to secure many endorsement deals, business opportunities and additional television offers based on the success of the show. Our goal has always been to try to build a brand if the situation presented itself.”

A source familiar with Sorrentino’s financial situation, pardon the pun, said after bonus incentives, ratings, and appearance fees, the reality star is earning close to $60,000 an episode for the upcoming third season of Jersey Shore.

Sorrentino earned himself a six-figure advance with Gotham Books to write his autobiography titled Here’s the Situation. He has also developed an abs-focused workout dvd, “The Situation Workout,” and a chewable supplement line distributed by GNC. Not to mention, an upcoming deal with a vodka line, Reebok, and Vitamin Water.

Hanson (yep, “MMMBop”) announced the third part of their current”Shout It Out” Tour today!

This tour is in support of Shout It Out, the band’s fifth studio album, which debuted at #2 on Billboard’s independent charts.

Hanson’s current single, “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’” has been sitting in the Top 20 over at VH1 for a few weeks now. The video for the single is a homage to The Blues Brothers movie and features “Weird” Al Yankovic. You can check that out below (you’re welcome).

Hanson went independent more than five years ago when they broke off of their former label, Island Def Jam, because of creative restraints. They have been significantly more refreshing with every album since.

The third leg of shows will also exhibit Jarrod Gorbel, former lead singer of The Honorary Title and will kick off November 1st in Texas.

It’s a sad day for Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren; they finalized their divorce earlier today.

They were both present at Panama City, Florida’s Bay County Circuit Court to make things official.

Nordegren’s lawyers released the following statement:

“We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future,”

“While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us.”

No settlement details have been released (yet), but we do know that Tiger handed over the couple’s Orlando home to Elin earlier this month.

Supposedly, Elin could receive as much as $500 million in assets, because their prenuptial agreements were re-drawn when Tiger started pouncing other women.

Tiger and Elin said they will share custody of their two young kids, Sam Alexis, 3, and Charlie Axel, 1.

“Once we came to the decision that our marriage was at an end, the primary focus of our amicable discussions has been to ensure their future well-being. The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them as we adjust to a new family situation, which is why our privacy must be a principal concern.”

In a recent post-tournament conference, Tiger said:

“All that really matters is I have two beautiful kids, and I’m trying to be the best dad I can possibly be, and that’s the most important thing of all.”

While that’s well and good, it’s also kind of important to be faithful to your wife, buddy.

Oh well.

I’d say ‘go get em’, Tiger,’ but I feel like he’s already got that one down.

Anna Paquin, 28, was donned in jewels as she walked down the aisle to marry Stepen Moyer this weekend. The True Blood star wore a gorgeous 50-carat necklace created by custom jeweler Neil Lane. The diamonds were set in darkened metal for a patina vintage style. Lane said:

“She wanted something with a vintage-inspired, romantic vibe.”

To complete the glamourous Hollywood look, the bride wore a white halter-neck gown with a pair of Lane’s simple diamond studs. Lane also provided Paquin’s mother with a bracelet and earrings.
