It’s been a year since LeAnn Rimes and Dean Sheremet split, and nearly a year since Dean filed for divorce.

Finally, LeAnn opens up in the October issue of Shape about cheating with her TV movie co-star, Eddie Cibrian and why her 8 year marriage to Dean failed.

“It wasn’t a fulfilling marriage for either of us. As we got older, we grew apart.”

LeAnn recognizes, though, that she didn’t take the right steps to get out of her situation.

“I did one of the most selfish things that I possibly could do, in hurting someone else,”

She told Shape:

“I understand why people are disappointed in me, especially since I grew up as America’s sweetheart,”

“I think any relationship is hard to get out of, and I don’t think the way I did it was right.”

“After going through this, I know I can face anything.”

Face anything, or get out of anything? At least she’s owning up to her actions, I guess.

As for Dean, he seems to be really happy with his new girlfriend, photographer Sarah Silver– they’re even living together!

Hope the new matches work better for both Dean and LeAnn long-term.
