David Franklin, son of music diva Aretha Franklin, is undergoing surgery after being brutally attacked and beaten at a gas station in Detroit. A spokesperson for the diva released a statement saying three people may have been involved in the attack but didn’t have any additional information.

According to ABC 7 in Detroit, a witness said two males and one female may have been responsible for the beating. They described one of the men to be around six feet tall, with dreadlocks and dark skin. The woman was described as being about 19 years old with short hair.

The Detroit Police Department said they are looking into the case but had no further comment.
