“The Daily Show” correspondent John Oliver recently proposed to his longtime girlfriend Kate Norley while they were on vacation in St. Thomas. Kate said “YES!” and the two are officially engaged, but they did not yet agreed on a date for their special day.

Kate and John, who met at a Republican National Convention back in 2008, will marry “some time next year”. Kate is an Iraq War vet who is looking for a quiet lifestyle by John’s side.

“I was a medic in the Army,” she explains. “It was difficult, but right now it’s nice that I get to spend time with the love of my life.”

“It’s the most emasculating thing I could possibly do to go out with someone who has actually done something valuable with their life,” Oliver adds jokingly.
