Paul, the Octopus, who correctly predicted the winner of eight World Cup games this summer, was tragically found dead in his home tank at the Oberhausen Sea Life Center in Germany earlier this morning (Tuesday, October 26).

Stefan Porwoll, the manager of Sea Life Center in Germany, claims Paul “appears to have passed away peacefully during the night, of natural causes.”

Paul was only two years old. I can tell you that is perfectly normal since the octopus has the average life expectancy of only three years. Certain species of octopus live only for about six months, while larger species can live up to six years depending on reproduction.
