After shots of Glee sweethearts Dianna Agron and Lea Michele in a sexy and rather suggestive GQ Magazine pictorial were released a few days ago, the actresses were criticized by the Parents Television Council. PTC President Tim Winter said:
“It is disturbing that GQ, which is explicitly written for adult men, is sexualizing the actresses who play high school-aged characters on Glee in this way. It borders on pedophilia. Sadly, this is just the latest example of the overt sexualization of young girls in entertainment.”

While FOX had no comment on the PTC lashing out at them, GQ Magazine did. They released a statement saying:
“The Parents Television Council must not be watching much TV these days and should learn to divide reality from fantasy. As often happens in Hollywood, these ‘kids’ are in their twenties. Cory Montieth’s almost 30! I think they’re old enough to do what they want.”
Wednesday night, Agron took to her blog to apologize to those who felt “uncomfortable” or “hurt” by the pictures:
“If you are hurt or these photos make you uncomfortable, it was never our intention. And if your eight-year-old has a copy of our GQ cover in hand, again I am sorry. But I would have to ask, how on earth did it get there?”
She added:
“For GQ, they asked us to play very heightened versions of our school characters. A ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ version. At the time, it wasn’t my favorite idea, but I did not walk away. I must say, I am trying to live my life with a sharpie marker approach. You can’t erase the strokes you’ve made, but each step is much bolder and more deliberate.”
Here’s the thing: the PTC is right. Glee isn’t appropriate for children. Heck, I’m in my twenties and I get uncomfortable watching the show. Would I have done the shoot if I were Lea or Dianna? No. Probably not. Considering the fact that there are tons of girls in their pre-teens religiously watching the show and every move these girls make (which should really be a compliment to them both), I don’t think it was the brightest move. Do I think they should be punished for it? No.
You know, there’s a fine line when you choose your career path in the entertainment industry. Lea and Dianna both know who they appeal to, and they know they’re on a show about high schoolers. If they wanted an “edgier” career where they wouldn’t be criticized for showing their panties, they should’ve kept that in mind when they signed their contracts with FOX.
I think Dianna did the right thing by coming forward and apologizing. Do you think Lea will do the same?
