There was a silver lining surrounding the Edwards family recently — despite her mother, Elizabeth Edwards‘ sickness, Cate Edwards announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend Trevor Upham.

Cate and Trevor became engaged over Thanksgiving weekend, and they had a lot to be thankful for. They were able to share the news with Elizabeth Edwards before she passed away from breast cancer on December 7.

A friend shared Elizabeth’s reaction at her funeral on Friday night:

“Elizabeth was thrilled,”

So sad about Elizabeth but good news for the rest of the Edwards family! Congrats Cate.
