The Littlest Duggar, Josie Duggar, Turns One!
Josie Duggar changed everything for Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar when she arrived last year on December 10th — weighing just 1 lb. and 6 oz.
Michelle even told PEOPLE at the time of Josie’s birth that she probably wouldn’t survive:
“This baby is so small, I don’t think she can survive,”
But one year later, Josie is as healthy as the Duggars other 18 children — and now weighs 15 lbs.
“She’s waving hello and goodbye,”
“She’s saying da-da … Her outlook is wonderful. It is a miracle.”
Josie was born very premature — she made her way into the world only 25 weeks into Michelle’s pregnancy. Because of that, she’s very tiny and requires oxygen when she’s asleep:
“She is in 6-month-old clothes now, but we have some 9-month-old ones ready for her to grow into.”
As for the birthday celebrations, the younger Duggar kiddos are having fun decorating the house. And what will Josie be getting on her birthday?
Michelle says:
“Because of Josie’s circumstances being so different, I’ve had to stop myself from buying too many presents,”
“I got her some clothes. And we are probably going to pick out a riding toy too and I am going to let the older kids help pick that out when they return.”
One cool thing is that for 8 days Josie’s niece Mackynzie and her older sister Jordyn will both be 1-year-old with her — Jordyn turns 2 on December 18th.
“For eight days more they will all be 1-year-old,”
“Anna (Josh‘s wife) and I are thinking this is a tradition we might start now and them photograph the three of them together every year.”
The fact that Josie Duggar made it to her first birthday is enough to celebrate, Michelle says.
“It is incredible,”
“It is a wonderful day. And it is exciting to think of the future.”
She has certainly grown a lot in her first year! Happy birthday, littlest Duggar!
