Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor is being forced to make a tough decision between her leg and her life since the blood clot on her leg has spread and the only solution is to amputate from the knee down. The 93 year-old was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center to have the procedure done.

Gabor’s spokesman, John Blanchette, explained: “She developed a lesion on the leg that had swollen a while back and caused her to go to the hospital for treatment, but it has not responded. In fact, it has increased in size, and the doctors have wanted to operate for several days.”

Zsa Zsa’s husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt confessed that his wife wanted to postpone the procedure because she wanted to stay home for the holidays. When doctors checked on the actress’ condition, they realized they could not wait any longer to save Zsa Zsa’s life. Prince Frederic stated, “She is strong.”

Echoing von Anhalt, the spokesman also said, “Frederic and Zsa Zsa asked if they could spend New Year’s at home, and [they] shared champagne and caviar. The doctors came to the house today [Sunday], and when they unwrapped the bandages, [they saw that] the wound had festered and they were afraid of gangrene developing, which would be life-threatening.”

Doctors recognize the amputation is a dangerous procedure, especially in Zsa Zsa’s condition, but it’s the only way to offer the glamour actress a few more years to live. The rep said, “It’s a dangerous operation, but the upside is that, if successful, she will remain her same old feisty self for a few more years.”
