Singer/“Going Platinum” co-host Jewel and her husband, rodeo star Ty Murray, have announced they are expecting their first child after trying to conceive for almost two years. The 36 year-old wanted to wait until the second trimester to share the happy news with her fans.

“I have always been a workaholic, so I had to learn how to slow down and take care of myself in a different way,” Jewel says about her struggle to conceive.

“I took a pregnancy test and it was positive!” the singer told PEOPLE. “It was so hard to keep it a secret. I was worried I’d start throwing up on set and everyone would be like, ‘Oh, she’s pregnant.’” Jewel added, “I’m trying to be in the moment and really enjoy my pregnancy. I feel really lucky.”

Ty and Jewel, who released a collection of children’s songs last year and is now working on a new album, tied the knot in the Bahamas back in 2008. The couple is currently remodeling their ranch in Texas to welcome the bundle of joy.
