Lady GaGa “Born This Way” vs. Madonna “Express Yourself”
Lady GaGa’s new song “Born This Way”, which she will perform for the first time tonight at the Grammys, sounds suspiciously like Madonna’s 1989 hit “Express Yourself” (check videos + mash-up below). Is “Born This Way” a poor rip-off? Is GaGa trying to copycat Madonna?

Madonna herself apparently believes she may have been ripped off as she posted a 1989 performance of “Express Yourself” at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards on her official YouTube page just a day after “Born This Way” was released on Friday (Feb 11).

The Daily Telegraph described “Born This Way” as “a reworking of Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself’ with a touch of Madonna’s ‘Vogue.’ Which is a bit too much Madonna for someone who is trying to establish her own identity as the, er, new Madonna.”
For Rolling Stone: “Lady Gaga has got something to say about ‘Express Yourself,’ and she’s turned Madonna’s fourth-best single of 1989 into her own instant-classic club anthem. It’s an event, a statement, the most anticipatrended song in the history of recorded music, or at least since Britney’s ‘Hold It Against Me.’”
The biggest music feud of the century might have just begun. Madonna vs. Lady GaGa: who wins?
