Actress Susan Lucci, best known for playing Erica Kane since 1970 in the recently canceled soap opera, is saddened but excited about new opportunities as she released an official statement on the cancellation of “All My Children”.

Susan said, “It’s been a fantastic journey. I’ve loved playing Erica Kane and working with Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with All My Children. I’m looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.”

Later, she tweeted, “It saddens me that All My Children is canceled. I’ve loved playing Erica Kane and working with Agnes Nixon & the incredible people at AMC.”

This is the end of an era in soap opera history. “All My Children” launched stars like Kelly Ripa, who is also inconsolable with the end of the longtime daytime drama.

Kelly said, “This is like losing a member of your family. All My Children was more than a job — it was my family. It was there that I met my husband; it was there when my first two children were born; it was there where I met many of my life-long friends. It was the greatest training ground ever. I feel heartsick.”

After more than 41 years (January 5, 1970), “All My Children” will end in September of 2011. R.I.P. All My Children.
