Oh. Cuteness! American Idol contestant, Paul McDonald, who was just eliminated from the competition on Thursday (April 14), confirmed that he is officially dating Twilight star Nikki Reed.

The 26 year-old is actually kind of relieved to be out of FOX’s talent show because now he can actually be himself and be the artist he wants to be. Paul has the full support of his girlfriend, whom he met at the premiere of “Red Riding Hood” (watch video here).

“She [Nikki] is actually pumped,” Paul said. ” Paul said, ‘Dude, you finally get to do your thing and be yourself and be the artist you are.’ She is happy about the whole situation. She has been nothing but cool to me.”

“I have this other side that I didn’t even start to show,” he says. “I play keys. It’s hard to do in a minute and a half of a cover song so I’m looking forward to doing my own thing and getting creative again.”

Paul confessed that he actually wrote some songs for his band, the Grand Magnolias, but doesn’t know when he will be able to work together again. Paul says, “I might have to release a solo album first. But I’d like to have the guys play on the record.”

Love Paul’s voice. He is super talented and I believe we will hear a lot more from him. The Idol castoff confessed that he only has one regret: “I probably shouldn’t have been writing songs while I was out here,” he says. “I should have been focusing more on learning [songs for Idol].”
