Kate Middleton Wedding Dress Designer: Sophie Cranston

Sophie Cranston, a young designer for the Libélula label, has been chosen to design Prince William’s bride Kate Middleton’s wedding dress. Sophie, who was relatively unknown until now, won the Designer Of The Year Award at London’s Graduate Week in 1999.

The 34 year-old designer worked for the late Alexander McQueen before launching Libélula in 2002 (official website). Kate is one of her celebrity fans, which also include Harry Potter star Emma Watson. Kate wore one of Sophie’s creations (a black velvet coat dress with a diamond clasp – see pic above) to a wedding back in January.

Sophie has reportedly been secretly working on Kate’s wedding gown for more than three months. The wedding gown of the century is apparently almost complete. We cannot wait to lay eyes on what’s expected to be a piece of art.
