Disney star Demi Lovato is finally ready to speak about her monsters after a stint in rehab, where she sought treatment for “emotional and physical issues”. In an interview for 20/20, Demi confessed she was cutter and also suffered from bulimia and depression.

The 18 year-old actress/singer began cutting her wrists at the tender age 11 and it “was a way of expressing my own shame, of myself, on my own body.” The self-mutilation offered Demi some sort of release for all the emotions she could not express.

Demi said, “I was matching the inside to the outside. And there were some times where my emotions were just so built up, I didn’t know what to do. The only way that I could get instant gratification was through an immediate release on myself.”
