Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively, 23, debuted her new red locks Tuesday night at the Time 100 Most Influential People Gala at Time Warner Center in New York City.

Lively said on the red carpet that she’s had it for about six weeks, explaining that she dyed it for a new movie role:

“I’m in a film called Hick and I’m a redhead for it.”

The film is about a girl from Nebraska who moves to Las Vegas. Lively plays a character called Glenda. The film also features Chloe Moretz, Alec Baldwin, Juliette Lewis and Rory Culkin.
