EXCLUSIVE: Stephen Barker Liles, Taylor Swift’s Crush Responds with a Song
After Taylor Swift released her now six-times platinum album Fearless last year, her hoards of tween fans had just one question.
Swift revealed that the object of her affection in the aptly titled song, “Hey Stephen” was none other than Stephen Barker Liles, of the country music duo Love and Theft, who toured with Swift in 2008.
And the feeling was definitely mutual.
Liles recently released “Try to Make it Anyway”, his follow up to the Taylor tune.
In an exclusive interview with Bumpshack, Liles recalls, “We both wrote the songs back in 2008. Taylor called me up to tell me that ‘Hey Stephen’ was going to be on her album and I was like, ‘That’s so weird; I just wrote a song about you two weeks ago!’”
Swift’s camp is yet to comment on the song, but the music video, directed by Nashville filmmaker Aaron Thomas and featuring barefooted, handsomely scruffy Liles, is sure to have Taylor swooning in no time.
Liles says that with Swift’s recent string of bad luck in romance, she deserves a guy who will write a song for her. ”She’s a really sweet girl; I just hope she likes the song.”
