NBC’s new talent show, The Voice, hosted by Carson Daily premiered on Tuesday (April 26)- recap and videos below. The judges/coaches, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton, have their backs turned while the contestants sing at their first auditions.

That’s why it’s called a blind audition. The four judges have to decide if they want to coach the contestants exclusively based on their vocal skills. They have no idea of what they look like. If the judges like The Voice, they have press the button that turns their chair around.

If only one of the judges presses the “I Want You” button, the voice is automatically on their team. If more do the same, the judges battle it off and the contestant has to make the difficult decision of picking their team, also picking by who they want to be coached.

Each coach/judge has to pick 8 singers for their team. That’s the end of round 1. The coaches have some time to train their contestants before they go face to face in pairs to the sing off (boxing) ring in round 2 of the competition.

At the end of round 2, the coaches will have to eliminate 4 of their singers and chose the four best contestants to go through to the next round. The 16 contestants picked by the coaches will compete for the title of The Voice in normal elimination rounds voted by the people at home. PHEW!

THE VOICE winner will take home $100,000 and a Universal Republic record deal.

The judges are funny, funky and very competitive. I really liked it. The contestants are not what you expect… they are different and the type of people that would most likely be mocked by other shows like American Idol, which doesn’t mean they aren’t super extremely talented.

31 year-old Tarralyn Ramsey kicked off the show with a rendition of Faith Hill’s “Breathe”. Christina is the first to push the button, Cee Lo Green does it too. Both Adam and Blake are impressed by they don’t turn around. Tarralyn is a huge fan of Christina and can’t wait to work with her. Christina Aguilera – 1.

20 year-old Patrick Thomas, who claims he was never athletic enough and kids bullied him, sang “Live Like You Were Dying”, making Adam, Cee Lo and Blake press the button. Christina tells Thomas she did not press the button because that’s not her genre. Patrick is a country guy. We know who he will pick. Blake Shelton – 1.

Jared Blake sings a rock version of Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad”. The judges don’t like the song choice and no one turns around. Next up is 26 year-old Vicci Martinez, a lesbian coming for a very religious family, performs Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep”. Cee Lo and Christina press the button. Cee Lo really wants Vicci, saying she touched his heart. Cee Lo Green – 1.

Sonia Rao, whose parents are Indian immigrants in the US, sings Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” no one pushed the button. Cee Lo wants to kick himself because the girl is gorgeous. NEXT. Josh and Nicole, the married couple who formed the folk/pop duo Elenowen, sing Glen Hansard’s “Falling Slowly”. Blake and Cee Lo turn around. Cee Lo wants to make them more pop and Blake wants to preserve their relationship. CUTE. Blake Shelton – 2.

WOO!! Frenchie Davis is BACK! You might remember her from American Idol. She was banned from the show because there were naughty nude pictures of her circulating on the internet. Frenchie sings Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” and Christina is the only one to press the button. Cee Lo recognizes her. Christina Aguilera – 2.

20 year-old hottie, Kelsey Rey, who wants to be recognized for her talent and not her beauty, performed Estelle’s “American Boy”. Cee Lo Green and Adam seem to be in a competition on who turns first throughout the whole show. Christina presses the button too. Christina says she is cute, but warns her about Cee Lo and Adam, who might hit on her all day. Cee Lo Green – 2.

22 year-old Jeff Jenkins, who dedicates his performance to his late mother, sang Rascal Flatts’ “Bless The Broken Home”. All of the judges pressed the button, but Blake was the last to do so. Jeff is incredible. Adam is fighting hard for this kid. Adam Levine – 1.

NEXT. Rebecca Loebe, who is currently living in her car, dares to change it up and sing her own version of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are”. Both Christina and Adam press the button. They fight for the singer. Rebecca says she will never forget Christina picked her first, but she wants to be on Adam’s team because that’s the direction she wants to take as an artist. Adam Levine – 2.

Joann Rizzo sang Aretha Franklin’s “Say A Little Prayer”, but did not impress the judges. 16 year-old Xenia Martinez performs The Script’s “Breakeven”. Cee Lo pushes the button and Blake does the same. Xenia picks Blake. Blake Shelton – 3.

27 year-old Tje Austin, whose parents are the sweetest country couple ever, performed Bruno Mars’ “Just The Way You Are”. Tje has a fantastic tone, lots of swag and is a great singer. Cee Lo and Adam push the button. Christina almost pushed it too. She didn’t and awfully regretted her decision, saying she heard a bit of Stevie and Cee Lo in his voice. Cee Lo Green – 3.

33 year-old Javier Colon impressed the judges with a rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time”. They all turned for Javier! Incredible!! Cee Lo and Adam turn, then Christina and Blake waiting until the last moment. Blake and Adam give him a standing O. Surprise. Adam Levine – 3.

OMG. Beverly McClellan is a rock and roll grandma with tattoos. LOL. She rocked a rendition of Janis Joplin’s “Piece Of My Heart”. Adam and Christina push the button at the same time. Blake didn’t turn because he was scared of she ever getting mad at him. Blah. Beverly’s decision is easy. Christina Aguilera – 3.
