Kirstie Alley was ready to nail the Rumba, when her professional dance partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy fell to the floor in the beginning of their routine to the sound of “Over the Rainbow” during Dancing With The Stars live show on Monday (April 4).
Maksim Chmerkovskiy Falls Down, Kirstie Alley Dances The Rumba On Dancing With The Stars (VIDEO)
Maksim got back on his feet and he and Kirstie delivered quite a good performance. Maks made sure to tell everyone that his leg just gave up and it had nothing to do with his incredible partner.
As if people needed more excuses to make mean jokes about Kirstie’s weight and dancing skills. Of course, Maksim also left the stage with a very bruised ego. So what happened? The ballroom dancer explained he had a “muscle contusion,” adding, “It’s like a Charlie horse.”
“Never happened to me and [I hope it] never happens again ‘cause it’s a little bruised, but I’ll be fine,” Maksim said. “It’s not about pain, forget the pain, I’m not being a hero or anything.”
“Everybody’s got a profession, my profession is not to do that. You know, if it happens — not to show it. I teach my couples, my kids, my students — it’s not about being perfect, it’s about not showing your imperfections and this just pisses me off because you’ve seen me mess up, you’ve seen me mess up with my partners, you just couldn’t notice.
“But today, there was nothing I could do to camouflage that [and] it pissed me off the most,” he added.

Yep, that fall was pretty embarrassing, but we are glad Maks is not seriously injured. What does Kirstie have to say about the incident?
“I wanted to make sure he wasn’t hurt and he wasn’t hurt. He stood up and he said, ‘Let’s just keep dancing.’ And I was like, ‘Cool,’” she said. “You know, it is live TV, stuff happens, that’s why we’re doing live TV.”
Both Kirstie and Maksim took to their Twitter account to explain the accident and thank their fans. Kirstie offered Maks her support and he only had good things to say about his dance partner.
Maksim tweeted, “To all the fans…I’m sorry! It will never happen again and I will never ‘fall’! To @kirstiealley You were..FLAWLESS! In more ways than one!”
Kirstie tweeted, “Maks is fine!!.. He’s a pro… Dancers live through lots of pain… But thanks for your concern!! Maks is too humble.. we all know it takes TWO to Tango..on our feet or on our asses…it takes TWO ..I will do better from now on…xoxo”
