Former CBS News Evening anchor, Katie Couric, who left the show after five years, has officially announced she is returning to ABC as the host and producer of her own daytime, syndicated talk show in an official statement released on today (Monday, June 6).
“I’m very happy to be returning to the network where I began my career as a desk assistant in 1979,” Couric says in a statement. “It is tremendously exciting to have the creative freedom to develop my own show … and to contribute to such a vibrant, innovative news division.”
The 54 year-old doesn’t want to reveal too much about her show, but Jeff Zucker, who previously worked on “The Today Showâ€, will be joining Couric’s new adventure as Executive Producer.
Couric’s ABC talk show is expected to make $20 million for the show that will mostly likely take the 3 pm coveted slot, which was previously ruled by The Oprah Winfrey Show. Can Couric become the new Oprah?
