NY Rep. Anthony Weiner just officially announced his resignation from Congress in a press conference held at his home district of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn in New York on Thursday (June 16).

“I’m here to apologize for the personal mistakes I have made and the embarrassment that I have caused,” Weiner said. “I had hoped to continue the work the citizens in my district had elected me to do. The distraction I have created has made that impossible.”
Weiner, who is married to Huma Abedin, was caught in a major sexting scandal and forced to resign as several Democratic leaders asked for him to set down immediately. A few days ago, Weiner announced he would be taking a leave of absence to seek treatment.

When the 46 year-old finally confirmed he was resigning, people in the audience applauded and some even heckled the fallen politician. Other people in the room started shooting some inappropriate questions as Weiner tried to conclude his short speech.
