Despite being engaged for over five years and the fact that New York legalized gay marriage, Neil Patrick Harris and his longtime partner David Burtka are not currently planning a wedding.

Friday, the actor, 38, Tweeted:

“It PASSED! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!! Thank you everyone who worked so hard on this!! A historic night!!”

“David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We’ve been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date.”

With that Tweet and a little media magic, every newspaper, magazine and online blog decided that Harris MUST be planning a wedding. Wrong! Monday, the Broadway veteran cleared up the marriage situation via Twitter:

“Dear media: Just because David and I will soon be able to marry in NY, doesn’t mean we are actively planning a wedding. Cart before horse.”

Darn! Well, thanks for clearing that up. We’ll be waiting for when you do decide to tie the knot.
