American Idol season 10 diva, Pia Toscano, finally debuted her much anticipated first solo single, a surprisingly upbeat song titled “This Time”, during the opening night of the American Idols Live! Tour in Salt Lake City on Wednesday night (July 6)- watch video below.

“This Time” was written by Esther Dean, who wrote hits like Rihanna’s “S&M” and Nicki Minaj’s “Superbass”. Two bubblegum songs, if you ask me. Other contestants with the opportunity to sing their own singles on the Idol tour stage: winner Scotty McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alaina.

Pia, who signed with Interscope, is clearly ready to become a successful Idol contestant, but to tell you the truth I still think she cannot connect with the audience. Pia has a lot of diehard fans, but she still doesn’t know how to captivate the attention of someone who doesn’t even know her.
