Last week, after seven years of what we all thought was wedded bliss, superstar Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony announced their plans to split.

In a statement, they announced:

“We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved, and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.”

The couple, who are parents to three-year-old twins Max and Emme, wed in 2004. Last week, rumors began to fly that there was trouble in paradise when Anthony was missing star-packed BAFTA Brits to Watch party in L.A., where Lopez met Prince William and Duchess Kate with her mother Guadalupe as her date.

A source has now come forward saying that Lopez is “devastated.” Lopez ”tried everything she could to make it work,” the source said. “They went to marriage counseling. She was patient and loving and did everything he wanted her to.. She exhausted all the possibilities.”

Another source added:

“They had a very up and down marriage. They would get into heated, horrible fights. Then, they would also go through times where they were extremely loving and romantic…It was a roller coaster with them from the beginning.”

This was the third marriage for Lopez, who was married to to restauranteur Ojani Noa (they split in 1998) and former backup dancer Cris Judd, to whom she was married from 2001 to 2003. The second marriage for Anthony, he was married to former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres. Anthony and Torres share two sons: Cristin, 10, and Ryan, 7.

Is everyone else as shocked about this split as I am? I really hated to hear this news. I’ve always liked them as a couple. Oh well, I guess that’s what I get for getting emotionally invested in a celebrity marriage.
