Linda Christian, the first ever ‘Bond Girl,’ has died in Palm Desert, California, after battling colon cancer at the age of 87.
The actress is best known for her role as the main love interest Valerie Mathis in theÂ 1954 TV adaptation ofÂ Casino Royale, playingÂ opposite Barry Nelson as James ‘Jimmy’ Bond. She also starred in theÂ 1944 Danny Kaye musicalÂ Up In Arms and in the 1948 filmÂ Tarzan and the Mermaids.
Christian’s breakout role in the Bond film eventually paved the way for actresses such asÂ Ursula Andress, Denise Richards and Halle Berry.
She is survived by her daughter Romina Power, as well as eight grandchildren.
