Cher’s son Chaz Bono, formerly known as Chastity Bono, has signed up to compete on the new season of Dancing With The Stars, and, obviously/naturally he is set to be partnered with a female ballroom dancer.

Chaz will be the first transgender to compete on the show. This will most probably stir some controversy, create awkward moments, ultimately make people discuss the subject, and hopefully, become more accepting. Cher must be a proud mama. Her son is truly trying to make a difference in the world.

The 42 year-old is now a man: in mind, body and legal documents. Chaz just legally became a man a couple of months ago, but he went through a very difficult and extenuating journey, which included an irreversible surgery to change his sex characteristics from female to male back in September of 2009.
