Actress/comedienne Melissa McCarthy, best known for her roles in “Gilmore Girls” and “Bridesmaids”, won the award for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles, California on Sunday (September 18) – more pictures below.

As the presenters announced the nominated actresses in this category, the six funny ladies, Edie Falco, Tina Fey, Laura Linney, Amy Poehler, Melissa herself and Martha Plimpton, came up to the stage as they eagerly awaited for the winner to be revealed. Melissa received the typical beauty queen flowers and tiara as her name was called.

All of the nominees congratulated the actress, whose role in the CBS sitcom “Mike & Molly” earned Melissa her first Emmy Award and nomination. Melissa, who wore a purple long dress, was obviously surprised as she said, “I’m from Plainfield, Ill., and I’m standing here, and it’s kind of amazing.”
