Dancing With The Stars contestant/soap star J.R. Martinez, who has completely driven the audience to tears twice this season, was severely injured while he was driving a Humvee and hit a landmine during a mission in Iraq back in April of 2003 (see before picture below).

The 28 year-old war veteran suffered severe smoke inhalation and burns over 40% of his body. J.R. was forced to spend 34 months at the Brooke Army Medical Clinic in San Antonio, Texas, during which he underwent 33 cosmetic surgeries.
