Hilary Swank has fired her manager of eight years, Jason Weinberg, after being criticized for making a paid appearance at the birthday party brutal Chechen dictator Ramzan Kadyrov.

The actress was the center of much backlash from the Human Rights Foundation after she attended the party, which she earned a reported six figures for. Other stars such as actor Jean Claude Van Damme, singer Seal and British violinist Vanessa Mae were also criticized for attending the show. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Swank said:
“I deeply regret attending this event. If I had a full understanding of what this event apparently intended to be, I would never have gone.”
HRF’s Sarah Wasserman told reporters that the organization sent a warning directly to Swank through Weinberg 10 days before the event:
“We offered to brief her, but her manager cut us short and responded that Hilary had no plans to attend. …Worse, the video of her birthday wishes shows her boasting about her knowledge of Chechnya and how she ‘reads’ and ‘does her research.’”
Swank is said to be furious with other members of her staff, who may be fired as well. She told THR she would be donating the money she earned from the appearance to multiple charitable organizations.
