Oh, the pressure!
X Factor contestant Marcus Canty, who faced super cute Rachel Crow in the shockingly dramatic results show last week, was deeply affected and even considered quitting the competition.
Judge Nicole Scherzinger sent both Marcus and Rachel to deadlock even through this was only Rachel’s first time in jeopardy in contrast to the male singer who had been there twice before. It’s pretty clear Marcus is not exactly America’s favorite and he would need a miracle if he wants to win.
I digress. After seeing Rachel’s reaction to the elimination, Marcus felt devastated. “Marcus was crying backstage,” an on-set source revealed. “It took him a few hours to pull himself together. He felt so bad, his first reaction was to quit.â€
Poor Marcus! The 20 year-old singer also received several negative messages. “I’ve got plenty of negative backlash,†he tells The Post. “People saying, ‘Marcus go home.’ I’ve got called names.â€
People should keep in mind it’s not Marcus’ fault. He is just competing for his life like any other contestant on the show. It was certainly not his decision to kick both Drew Ryniewicz and Rachel, Simon Cowell’s super talented young girls, in consecutive weeks.
“I knew [people] would say, ‘Marcus the baby-killer,’ and I got the little girls crying,†he says. “But people should be prepared for a heartbreak, cause everybody can’t win… If people wanted Rachel to go through, they should have voted for her.â€
At the moment, Marcus is keeping a positive attitude and he is ready to keep fighting. “I am a cat with nine lives. They try to get rid of me, but they can’t,†he said.
Marcus and the other Top 4 contestants will be singing for their lives once again in “The X Factor†big semi-finals on Wednesday (December 14). Be prepared to experience seizures and internal ear bleeding as soon as Marcus sets foot on that stage. Just kidding!
