‘Young Adult’ Charlize Theron: “If You Love Hello Kitty, You Need Help!”
“Young Adult” star Charlize Theron revealed to be absolutely amused by some of women’s odd behaviorisms, which include their fascination with Hello Kitty and Hello Kitty wardrobe.
If you are in your 30’s and love Hello Kitty, Charlize thinks you need help, professional help like psychiatrist help! Thank God I’m in my 20’s and y’all can’t see me rocking out in my Hello Kitty pajamas right now. I kid.
“I’m pretty amazed by Hello Kitty. I see so many women in their 30s walking around in Hello Kitty sh-t and nobody is concerned for them,” Theron said. “It’s the one iconic teenage symbol that seems okay for women in their 30s? The world seems to not have an issue with it.”

This Hello Kitty obsession is one of the main traits of her character (Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature) in the movie “Young Adult” brilliantly written by Diablo Cody. Charlize had only one request. She “said to the costume director, ‘Get me some Hello Kitty T-shirts.’ Those were my demands.”
Ah. Obviously, Charlize hasn’t been properly introduced to slutty Hello Kitty tops and booty shorts! Just saying…
Honestly, I totally understand Charlize’s point of view and I would be the first to judge a middle-aged woman wearing Hello Kitty, which brings me full circle to the point I admit “Young Adult” is a pretty damn good movie.
However, do not expect Mavis to have some sort of epiphany and change her ways, teaching you a lesson that even you can change your life around, because this is a real life movie. Mavis is no heroine.
Charlize also loved to be a part of this project. “I’m really glad I got to play this character and that it’s being appreciated,” she said. “It’s such a luxury to be able to do a film that you want to do.”
“Young Adult” is currently in theaters across the country. I strongly advise you to watch this movie, you might even learn something about yourself.
