Country star Taylor Swift released her new single “Safe & Sound” from the highly anticipated movie “The Hunger Games” soundtrack as a Christmas gift to more than 10 million fans and followers on Twitter (listen to audio below).

In no time “Safe and Sound” started trending worldwide on Twitter and quickly became the number one song on iTunes. Instant hit. The song was written by The Civil Wars, who also recorded the song with Taylor.

“The Hunger Games”, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, hits theaters on March 23, 2012.
