American Idol alum David Archuleta announced he would put his music career on hold to serve a two-year Mormon mission during one of his “My Kind of Christmas” tour concerts in Salt Lake City, Utah (watch video below).

The 20 year-old season seven runner-up got emotional and held back tears as he announced to news to the crowd. David was simply following his heart and his faith when he chose to serve a full-time mission. Fans should fully support his decision.

David said, “I have decided to make a special annoucement, that I’ve chosen to serve a full-time mission. It’s not because somebody told me that I was supposed to do it, not because that I no longer want to do music anymore, but it’s because it’s the feeling that I felt that I need to do next in my life.”

“It’s just the same feeling that I’ve always followed, tried to follow in my life. It’s the feeling that has allowed me to have the opportunities that I’ve had, the challenges that I’ve overcome and the blessings, too. And I’ve learned to trust that feeling, and I’ve learned that I need to answer when it calls. And that is the reason why I know I need to do this in my life.”

This news aren’t exactly surprising since it’s typical for young male members of the Mormon church to embark on a missionary journey anywhere around the world for a couple of years to spread the message.

According to the rules, the Mormon missionary is only allowed to make two phone calls a year to their mother on Christmas and Mother’s Day. David is expected to start his mission in the first half of 2012, but there’s no information about where he will be sent to.

During The X Factor finale press conference the finalists drew cards to decide the performance order. Josh will kick off the show, Chris will follow, and Melanie gets the final word, which should give her some sort of leverage.

The three contestants revealed what type of record they want to put out if they win the $5 million recording contract. Melanie is all about “big ballads and dance songs,” Josh promised to include “a big rock song, a soul song, a ballad,” while Chris goes for a mix of “hip-pop, rock and soul.”

Simon Cowell promised it would be the “the greatest finale ever, in terms of talent” and revealed the contestants would perform duets with superstar acts during the big live performances show on Wednesday (December 21).

The Welsh host of The X Factor USA, Steve Jones, is rumored to be getting a permanent dismiss from his hosting duties and not returning for a second season of the talent show. Simon Cowell is allegedly set to tell Steve: “You’re fired!”

Steve has been described as “utterly irrelevant,” “annoying” and the most useless host in history of hosting. The critics have been brutal and the US audience is also very harsh on their evaluation of his “performance” on the show.

A source told The Mirror, “He got terrible reviews from critics when he started and things haven’t got better. There have been mistakes and he just doesn’t seem to have the knack for dealing with contestants.

“The executives at Fox have already decided not to renew his contract and so, short of a miracle happening, it is pretty much a done deal that he will not take part next season.”

The 34 year-old is not exactly a likeable character and sometimes he is just plain awkward to watch. For example, Steve didn’t know what to do with himself when Rachel Crow had that tremendous meltdown after her elimination and that created one of the most awkward moments in history of live TV (video here).

Steve’s rep declared there’s absolutely no truth to these rumors, adding, “Steve is very happy with the outcome of this season,” his rep says. “And he looks forward to being back and discovering more talent in the New Year.”

A rep for the show reiterated: “No discussions have been had and no decisions will be made about any contracts until the New Year.”

If Steve loses his job, Nicole Scherzinger, who was originally set to co-host the show before Simon fired judge Cheryl Cole, might the first in line to replace him. The question is: who could possibly replace Nicole in the judges’ panel?

Justin performed two songs from his “Under The Mistletoe” album, “The Christmas Song” and “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”, with Drew and Stevie. The performance was taped on December 14.

After Drew’s shocking elimination on week 6 of the competition, JBieber tweeted a message of support to the 14 year-old singer. “@drewryniewicz keep your head up. I lost my first competition too. this is just the beginning for u. never say never. best wishes,” he wrote.

The final three contestants are very different artists. Melanie (Team Simon Cowell – Girls) is the diva with incredible vocal power, Josh (Team Nicole Scherzinger – Over 30’s) is the talented hobo/rocker with a raspy voice, and Chris (Team L.A. Reid – Boys) came straight out of rehab to show off his rhymes.

Who’s your winner? I’m forced to admit Melanie is the best singer in the competition, but she lacks a certain “je ne sais quoi,” while Chris has a whole lot of charisma. I’m personally rooting for Josh because he is simply amazing, however I don’t think he can win because he is a more mature and less commercial type of artist.

The X Factor USA winner will walk out with a $5 million recording contract and star in a Pepsi commercial, which will air during the Super Bowl XLVI on NBC. The winner will be announced during the big final results show on Thursday (December 22).

Actor Gerard Butler was rushed to the Stanford Medical Center on Sunday (Dec 18), after he was caught off guard by a large set of waves while surfing at Maverick’s, the infamous Northern California break where pro surfer Sion Milosky died back in March.

The 42 year-old was shooting a scene for the movie “Of Men and Mavericks” with a crew and surfer Zach Wormhoudt when they were surprised by big waves that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Gerard was rescued by a safety patrolman (see pictures below).

After being rescued, “[Butler] had that 100-yard stare that surfers get after a two-wave hold-down or near-death experience,” reports ESPN. Gerard was dazed, but didn’t suffer serious injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

MTV’s “Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood was sent back to jail for a violation of her probation. The 21 year-old mom is currently being held at Madison County Jail in Indiana, where she is expected to spend the holidays.

Shawn Portwood, Amber’s brother, explained exactly why his sister was thrown in jail this time:

“Probation officers visited [her] for a random drug test at her house and they found pills in her purse that she did not have a prescription for even although she explained that they had previously been prescribed to her. In addition she missed a court hearing and that is why she was jailed this time around.”

The teen mom was convicted on two counts of domestic battery for hitting her baby daddy Gary Shirley in an incident caught on tape. Amber failed to comply with the conditions of her probation, which included getting a high school diploma, complete anger management classes, pay probation fees and set up a college fund for her daughter.

Meanwhile, the young mother also lost of the custody of her daughter Leah to Gary, and she was recently involved in a vicious brawl caught on tape at an Indiana restaurant.

“She was drunk, and there was another girl in the restaurant who had been drinking too and apparently said something about Amber to her friend,” a source told Star. “Amber instigated the fight. Amber is due in court on January 13, 2012. Her brother claims, the teen mom is “distraught because she was planning to spend Christmas with her family and Gary was going to let her see Leah also.”

Actor Terrence Howard and his estranged wife Michelle Ghent are involved in a nasty divorce battle, which includes mutual accusations of domestic violence and hateful conduct. Terrence claims he was shocked when Michelle turned from a “loving, gentle” person into a monster.

According to court documents, Michelle, who is trying to extort Terrence over private recordings she stole from his computer, would scream “[I] never wanted to marry a n**ger in the first place” and “[I] definitely didn’t want to be the step mother of some n**ger kids.”

The 42 year-old actor is also seeking a restraining order against Michelle, claiming she attacked him twice with a bottle after accusing him of speaking with other women. How do these celebs get involved with this type of people?

Michelle and Terrence married in a secret ceremony back in January 2010. Michelle filed for divorce a year later on February of 2011. The actor was previously married to Lori McCommas, with whom he had three children (two daughters and a son), for more than 14 years.
