Thomas Beatie aka “Pregnant Man,” who become the first legal man to give birth, and his wife Nancy have decided to separate after nine very long and difficult years together, during which they faced incredible challenges and intense media scrutiny.

The 38 year-old father of two children he gave birth to himself revealed the marriage was over during a taping of The Doctors, while discussing his final gender reassignment surgery.

“Nancy hasn’t seen the new me yet,” Beatie said. “Like all marriages, we have our ups and downs, and we’re going through a rough patch right now. At the moment, we’re separated.”

We met Thomas back in 2007 when pictures of his pregnant body and bearded face made headlines all over the world. Thomas was born a woman, but soon realized he lived in a foreign body.

The Pregnant Man legally became a man and had already started the sex change process while preserving his female reproductive organs when he decided to become pregnant because his wife was no longer able to conceive.
