“The Big Bang Theory” star Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper on the CBS sitcom, decided to casually come out of the closet as a gay man in new profile published by Patrick Healy for the New York Times on Wednesday (May 23).

The 39 year-old actor, who played Tommy Boatwright, a young gay activist in “The Normal Heart” last year, is described as a “gay and in a 10-year relationship.”

“The Normal Heart resonated with him on a few levels: Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship, and working with an ensemble again onstage was like nourishment, he said,” according to the NY Times profile.

Jim’s rep had no comment. And it’s not like the actor’s sexual orientation was a big secret. Jim will soon return to the Broadway stage as Elwood P. Dowd in the upcoming play “Harvey.”
