Actress Charlize Theron is experiencing motherhood to the fullest with her adopted son, baby Jackson, and the help of her two incredible rescue dogs, Berkley and Pitt, who were abandoned and abused before being saved by the “Snow White and The Huntsman” star.
In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the 36 year-old actress also opened up about the long adoption process, which took more than two years before she was finally able to bring the nine-day old baby home.
Charlize on how her two dogs are in love with her son:
Charlize: “It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever witnessed. From the moment this baby came into our home. Those two dogs have never been more in love. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever witnessed.”
Charlize: “People keep saying, oh you’re a single mom and I’m like actually I’m not. I got two boys (her dogs) helping me out. It’s incredible. This is Berkley, a terrier mutt and he’s actually the pacifier thief. He’s eyeing the pacifier (photo of dog and baby) He’ll just lay there with the pacifier in his mouth. Then the Pitt (bull) is beyond. The Pitt woke up with me for every feed, for every change, and whenever the baby would cry the Pitt would start crying.”
Ellen: “And that Pitt Bull had gone through… That was a horrible story. That was amazing that you saved that Pitt Bull’s life. Clearly it knows that and is helping you in any way it can..”
Charlize: “He’ll do anything for that baby.”
Charlize on the adoption process of her son Jackson:
Ellen: “Jackson is your son’s name and everyone thinks since you’re from South Africa, that he’s from South Africa but, he’s not.”
Charlize: “He’s American.”
Ellen: “And how old was he when you brought him home?”
Charlize: “Nine days.”
Ellen: “Nine days old. What’s that like to all the sudden to have a nine day old baby in your life?”
Charlize: “You know, it took me a while. The process, it took around two years. My Mom said the most beautiful thing. I’m going to cry. She said….it took me nine months to fall in love with you were growing in my stomach. She’s like it took you two years to fall in love with this little baby. It really took two years of just waiting and then one day it’s finally there. It just feels exactly how it’s supposed to feel. I don’t know how to describe it. It just feels right.”
