Singer Doc Watson Dies at 89
Bluegrass and folk musician Doc Watson died at the age of 89 on Tuesday in Winston-Salem, N.C., after being hospitalized for abdominal surgery, according to a hospital spokesperson and his management.
The blind songwriter, who won seven Grammy awards over the course of his life, was best known for recordings like “Tom Dooley” and “Shady Grove.” In 1997, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts from then President Bill Clinton.
He is survived by a daughter, Nancy.
