Vice President Joe Biden’s daughter, Ashley Biden, married her boyfriend, Dr. Howard Krein, in an intimate ceremony, which combined the bride’s catholic traditions and the groom’s Jewish ones, held at the St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church in Greenville, Delaware on Saturday (June 2).

“We are pleased to announce that our daughter, Ashley Blazer Biden, married Dr. Howard Krein this evening in Wilmington, Delaware, the Vice President Joe and Dr. Jill Biden said in a statement from the Vice President’s office to Us Weekly. “The private ceremony was attended by the bride and groom’s close family and friends. We’re happy to welcome Howard into our family, and we wish them all the best in their new life together.”

Joe walked his daughter, who wore mermaid wedding gown by Vera Wang, down the aisle before they headed off to celebrate the union at a very special wedding reception in the backyard of the Biden’s lakeside family home in Wilmington.

“I kept telling Ash, we’ve got to open up the church and practice walking up and down the aisle so I can handle it,” the vice president said. “I think to myself, aw, God, my little girl! This can’t have passed so quick.”

President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama did not attend the ceremony to not draw attention away from the big event. That was Ashley and Howard’s wedding. The two, who met through Ashley’s brother Beau Biden, got engaged last October after dating for only a year.
