Carrie Underwood to Star in NBC’s Live Production of ‘The Sound of Music’
Country singer Carrie Underwood is set to star as Maria von Trapp in NBC’s live staging of the classic musical The Sound of Music.
The three-hour televised show, which is set to air during the holiday season in 2013, will be spearheaded by Smash producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

An NBC spokesperson told reporters: “We’re thrilled to be presenting the Broadway version of The Sound of Music live and having Carrie Underwood as the star brings it to a new generation who will fall in love with it for the first time as many millions of people already have.”
The 1965 film adaptation of the Broadway musical starred Julie Andrews. So why Carrie Underwood again?
