R&B singer Usher won the ultimate prize! He was the winning bidder at $12,000 for a golden doodle puppy at the Oct. 25 Pencils of Promise gala in New York City.

Usher outbid former Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr for the golden retriever and standard poodle mix. The $12,000 will go to help the organization, which is endorsed by pop singer Justin Bieber, and builds schools in impoverished nations.

Legendary boxer, Micky Ward, who was recently portrayed by Mark Wahlberg in the movie “The Fighter”, was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital after he tried to protect his dog from a stray dog while they were enjoying their daily walk in Massachusetts on Wednesday (June 15).

The stray dog reportedly approached Micky’s dog and became aggressive. The 45 year-old retired boxer tried to get in between the two dogs, and was violently attacked by the stray dog, suffering bits on his arm and a major wound on his index finger.

Micky is expected to remain under observation in the hospital until Sunday (June 19). The incident was pretty serious – Micky’s index finger was almost bitten off! OUCH! The good news is that the boxer’s dog was not injured during the attack.

Dogs are a guy’s best friend. Micky did what he had to do to protect his buddy. We wish him a full and quick recovery. Go Micky!

Poor Martha Stewart! The 69 year-old simply wanted to kiss her little doggies, two French bulldogs named Francesca and Sharkey, goodbye before heading out to New York City for work, when she got accidently headbutted by a startled Francesca.

This incident earned Martha a trip to the emergency room and nine stitches on her upper lip (pictures above). OUCH. Martha explains Francesca was sleeping and she must have scared her because the dog moved quickly and hit her in the face.

“As I leaned down to whisper goodbye to a dozing Francesca, I must have startled her, because she bolted upright with such force that she hit me in the face like a boxing glove hitting an opponent’s face,” Stewart wrote on her blog.

Martha was treated by a plastic surgeon, Dr. William Nolan, who treated the wound and gave her stitches. “She got hit with a pretty good whack,” Dr. Nolan tells PeoplePets. “The cut was through the skin and through the muscle of the lip, so it wasn’t just a little, itty-bitty cut.”

Martha must have learned the lesson. First, you gotta wake up the kids before you can whisper sweet nothings in their ear and kiss them goodnight.

A bulldog, which was initially identified as a pit bull, brutally attacked and killed a smaller dog, a small Maltese weighing three to five pounds, and then attacked the owner, a woman who fortunately suffered only minor injuries.

Someone called 911 around 11:10 am. Authorities arrived at the scenes and quickly identified the dog by its home address – Samantha’s apartment! Animal Control arrived, apparently talked to Samantha and left without the dog.

I would really love to know why was the poor bulldog on the streets before he attacked the smaller dog? Can we call pet protective services on Samantha!?! One little loved pet was killed today, someone should be responsible for what happened.

The Travolta family has been victim of another tragedy. John Travolta’s dogs were killed in a freak accident after their private jet landed at Bangor International Airport in Maine on Thursday (May 13).

“At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010, an airplane carrying members of the John Travolta family landed at BIA,” read a statement released by airport director Rebecca Hupp.

“While there, two small dogs were taken for a walk by someone who is not a family member. An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the plane and did not see the dogs.

“Unfortunately, the dogs were struck and killed. The airport is investigating the accident. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, the city will make no further comment.”

The family has not released a statement about the tragic accident and death of their beloved pets, but we should all respect their privacy in this difficult time of mourning.

The Travoltas lost their son, Jett Travolta, in a tragic accident during a vacation in the Bahamas last year. They were also extorted by people who claimed to have hospital documents that suggested negligence.
