Jenelle Evans to Box Kim Kardashian

Class act Janelle Evans of MTV’s Teen Mom, has challenged socialite/perfumista/executive producer/gag me, Kim Kardashian to a bout in the ring.  If Kardashian takes the bait, she stands to gain $1 million dollars – not that the queen of the Kardashian empire needs it.

The challenge  by Evans comes on the heels of Kardashian’s comments on her blog regarding MTV and their glamorization of teen pregnancy.  From high atop her soapbox, Kardashian slammed Teen Mom, saying,

“It seems that shows like Teen Mom are all of a sudden making teen pregnancy seem cool in the eyes of young girls. The kids from these shows are all over the news, even on the covers of magazines, and have been become almost like celebrities, but girls, these are not people you should idolize!”

While most would agree that Kardashian’s opinion is completely justified, teen mom Amber Portwood saw otherwise, telling US Magazine,

“Last time I checked, Kim Kardashian had a sex tape floating around on the internet and I’m pretty sure she made a lot of money off of it. She made a sex tape when she was younger and she wants to bash the girls on Teen Mom?”

If Kardashian decides she’s up for a second celebrity boxing match, the event would raise money and awareness for Inspirationsyouth.com, a teen drug and alcohol abuse organization.

I think that’s worth another black eye.

Nancy O’Dell To Step In When Mary Hart Bids Farewell To Entertainment Tonight

It’s the end of an era — Mary Hart is saying goodbye to Entertainment Tonight after nearly 30 years.

Mary Hart is now 60 and will bid farewell to her long-lived post at ET come summer 2011. She will be replaced by Nancy O’Dell, who has co-anchored Access Hollywood for nearly 13 years.

Since Nancy is no newbie, Mary is confident of her ability to do a good job:

“Leaving this job was not an easy decision, but knowing I will pass the baton to Nancy O’Dell makes that decision much easier,”

“Nancy is a talented and respected entertainment correspondent. We have spent many years working on opposite sides of the celebrity battlefield and I know the show will flourish with Nancy as co-anchor.”

Nancy shared her excitement to take post at ET, a job she has dreamed of since she was little:

“I remember watchingEntertainment Tonight when it first premiered and dreaming about working for the show someday,”

“I am honored to be the one chosen to fill a TV legend’s seat and I hope I can do her proud!”

Nancy O’Dell will join Entertainment Tonight as a correspondent as soon as January, and will take her position as co-host alongside Mark Steines after Mary Hart finishes out her final season.

Congrats to Nancy on her new position — though those are some big shoes to fill. Mary Hart is a legend. Good luck!

“The Big Green Help Global Challenge” Launches Today

biggreenhelp_logo

As part of Nickelodeon‘s The Big Green Help campaign, a new game is being launched online today with a goal of igniting real-world action for environmental change.

Kids will be asked to virtually pledge volunteer hours in the “Global Challenge” that they can translate into actionable steps in their homes, communities and schools. The game is this year’s cornerstone of Nickelodeon’s on-going global pro-social initiative, The Big Green Help, which aims to make energy-saving and earth-friendly activities a part of kids’ everyday lives.

“With about three quarters of the U.S. kid population actively gaming online, we think our ‘Global Challenge’ game is a great way to connect them to the pro-social issues they care about, like the environment,” said Marva Smalls, Executive Vice President of Public Affairs, Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group. “Our legacy of empowering kids has shown that they can lead the way in addressing positive change, and we hope this game can be the beginning of a kid-led environmental movement.”

Kudos to Nick for being more than a channel of mindless cartoons and “entertainment”. Introducing social and environmental issues to children is something too many parents don’t do, and this is a great way to bring it to their world in a fun, relevant way.
