News that actor James Franco is dating his Spring Breakers co-star Ashley Benson, of Pretty Little Liars fame, broke earlier this week. And not soon after that, rumors began to spread that Franco and Benson’s co-star Selena Gomez is not happy with their relationship.

Gomez, who reportedly got Benson the role in their upcoming flick, is upset over the new romance because when Benson started dating Franco, she was still dating Gomez’s boyfriend, Justin Bieber‘s BFF Ryan Good.

“Selena feels used and kind of punched in the face seeing as though she got Ashley the role and Ashley just used the opportunity to break her friend’s heart,” an insider revealed to RadarOnline.com.

“After Emma Roberts turned down the role because she didn’t want to gain weight for it, Ashley practically begged Selena to get her in front of producers for the part. She did, because she thought they were all friends, but it was clear early on that Ashley had something going on with James,” the source added.

When Good began to notice a “shift” in Benson’s attitude, Gomez assured him nothing was wrong.

“Once the shoot wrapped, Ashley told Ryan they needed to ‘slow down’ and then booked a flight to New York City to go see James’ art gallery showing,” the insider continued.

“Selena is pi–ed off that she went out of her way to vouch for Ashley, only to have her dump Ryan,” the source said “She got the role and she got the man, but she lost a good friend.”

James Franco’s 63 year-old father, Doug Franco, tragically and unexpectedly passed away, the actor’s mother, actress Betsy Franco confirmed the sad news on Twitter. The cause of death was not revealed and remains a mystery.

Betsy share with her followers on Twitter, “It is true that my sweet, generous husband passed away. He gave so much to his three sons and me, and to many other people, too.”

Doug and Betsy both attended the Oscars hosted by their son, who was also nominated for Best Actor for his role in the movie “127 Hours”, earlier this year. The couple even posed for photographs with their two sons, James and Dave Franco, backstage.

Our condolences, thoughts and prayers go to the Franco family, especially Betsy, and her three sons, James, Dave and Tom Franco.

Seriously? The 2011 Oscar co-hosts should probably hate each other after one of the biggest fiascos in Hollywood history. But, does Anne Hathaway really hate James Franco? And vice-versa?

James seemed to be too high to even care about what was happening and to understand how big his responsibilities at the event were. Anne basically had to make all the heavy lifting – she tried too damn hard to be funny and failed miserably. She is not a comedienne.

“She had to provide all the energy — he was just phoning it in,” says a second insider. “James seemed in his own little world. Producers were pissed.”

After the show, the 32 year-old actor skipped his own Oscars after-party at The Writer’s Room in Los Angeles and went straight back to New York (WHY?). A source said, “He went immediately back to NYC because he was pissed about how the show went.”

Anne’s rep denies such claims, saying, “This is absolutely not true. Anne had a wonderful experience with him.” Of course, she did. Anne cannot say James basically ruined her big night. Or didn’t he?

It’s his party and James Franco can cry if he wants to.

After finishing up his duties as Oscar host, James hit the road without even attending his own party. And he didn’t just leave the building, he left Los Angeles all together and headed back to New York City. The 127 Hours actor didn’t even drop by his Supper Club bash, but actors Seth Rogen and Kevin Spacey were reportedly in attendance.

He left his explanation to the Twit pics he Tweeted on his way out. One said, “Goodbye L.A.,” with an image of Franco sipping on a Bloody Mary. The other said, “It was fun! Time to head back to class.” (Franco is a student at both Yale and New York University.)

It was a performance that left many viewers of the 83rd Academy Awards wishing for the days of Bob Hope or Billy Crystal as host. Anne Hathaway seemed to be trying really hard, perhaps too hard at times, to do the best she could.  Her co-host James Franco appeared well STONED, unattached to what was happening, and disinterested.

The biggest day in Hollywood brings the biggest parties, and this year will be no different. It’s been rumored that queen Madonna will be hosting a post-Oscar party rivaling Oscar host and nominee James Franco.

“Franco’s so beyond cool that a lot of people who would have scooted up to Madonna’s will more than likely do the Governors Ball, Vanity Fair and then James’s bash, because they’re all quite close.”

Here’s what I’m thinkin’: all the musicians in attendance will attend Madonna’s (probably because they’ll be scared of what will happen if they don’t) and all the actors will attend Franco’s. I’d choose Franco any day. Plus, he’s the host of the show. It wouldn’t be classy to miss his bash.

USA Today got to chat with Oscar host and nominee James Franco about his hosting duties and what we can expect to see Sunday, February 27.

On the script:

“We’ve done some script readings, but they haven’t finalized the script. For me and Anne (Hathaway), I think it will feel like it went by really fast by the time that we’re done. There’s a lot to do, and when you do live shows, it goes by really fast.”

On his four tuxes, designed by Gucci (who is also the face for):

“They’ve been incredibly supportive,” says Franco, who is so enamored by the Italian fashion house, he pitched Gucci creative director Frida Giannini about making a documentary on how she works. “I think what they do over there is so interesting and has got such a great spirit.”

On if he’s nervous:

“No. You mean all the eyeballs around the world? The camera’s the camera, whether there’s five people watching or a billion.”

On what he’s done to prepare:

“I’ve watched all of Jack Nicholson‘s acceptance speeches, and they’re always really funny. They’re always really interesting because he thanks people you wouldn’t expect him to thank, and then makes you go look them up and wonder what the connection is.”

On his plan to avoid Ricky Gervais‘ jokes:

“I haven’t really read about the fallout of Ricky Gervais. I was there and I didn’t think he was that funny. The jokes were kind of — gay Scientology jokes? South Park did that like five years ago. So I don’t really want to do Ricky Gervais style.”
